How to get a press release on Barchart
· 5 min read
A Barchart placement arrives through a wire rather than by submitting to Barchart. It is named on our Headline package, quote-on-request on its own, and costs us $26.10 wholesale. It is also the one placement in this catalogue anyone can check: the robots.txt leaves every press-release path open, the page returns a real 404 once it is gone, and the link came back nofollow on all three wires we measured.
Most of this catalogue comes with an asterisk about checking. AP News disallows its press path. MarketWatch's owner prohibits automated collection in writing. Benzinga answers 403 to its own robots.txt. Street Insider permits crawlers and then blocks them at the door. USA Today returns a payment-required status.
Barchart does none of that. Its robots.txt, read 29 August 2026, is eleven lines long. User-agent: * disallows /password/, /proxies/, /search?* and three sort-order query parameters. There are no AI-crawler blocks of any kind. Every press-release path is open.
The behaviour matches the policy. Across repeated passes our verifier got a stable 200 every time — an automatic-verification rate of 1.00 — and, crucially, a well-formed URL that does not exist returns a clean 404. That second property is rarer than it should be: on Benzinga, Digital Journal and Street Insider a deleted page returns 403, which is indistinguishable from a healthy page being shielded, so removal there is only ever found by a person. On Barchart, if the page goes, we can tell you, and so can you.
That makes Barchart the honest recommendation for anyone who wants a placement they can hold somebody to.
What the page is
The URL is barchart.com/story/news/{id}/{slug}. The byline slot carries the wire, not a person — "GetNews — 36 minutes ago" on one page, "GetNews — Fri Aug 28, 3:48PM CDT" on another — beside a Press Release chip. The foot of the article reads "Press Release Distributed by ABNewswire.com", and the disclosure line points at a policy page anyone can open:
All information and data in this article is solely for informational purposes. For more information please view the Barchart Disclosure Policy
Below that sits the full Media Contact block your wire template generated: contact name, street address, phone. Every release in the section has the identical shape, which is worth knowing — the page reads as inventory rather than as coverage, and a careful reader will see that.
Publication is fast. One release we opened carried a timestamp 36 minutes old.
What the link does, on three different wires
Nofollow. rel="nofollow noopener" on every client link, on every page we read — five links on one, three on another. That token is Google's own signal that no ranking credit passes.
The interesting part is the spread of wires behind those pages: a Newsfile release in February 2026, another in June, and an ABNewswire release in August. Three wires, three months apart, one answer.
That matters because across this dataset the wire usually decides your link — the same masthead gave three dofollow links on one wire and none at all on another. Barchart is one of the outlets where that does not happen, because the outlet has already decided. Its policy overrules whatever the feed hands it, which is also the commonest answer in the whole set and entirely normal publisher behaviour.
So the expectation to hold is firm: buy Barchart for the citation, never for the link. The catalogue carries the same reading against every outlet we have opened, and says "Unconfirmed" against the ones we have not.
One submission, two placements
The release we opened on Barchart on 28 August 2026 was the identical release we opened on Street Insider the same day, from the same wire submission. Same copy, same date, two URLs.
Neither outlet is doing anything wrong — that is what syndication is. But if a coverage report shows you both and counts two, you should know it was one send, and that search engines will pick one canonical copy of a text published at multiple URLs. This is how outlet counts get built, in miniature, on two rows you can check yourself in five minutes.
What it costs
Barchart is quote-on-request on its own. Our wholesale is $26.10 — the supplier's barchart plan lists at $29, bought at $0.90 a credit, the tier of the reseller ladder we are on.
It is named on the Headline package, which is the only way to buy it off the page: nothing here is sold individually, so on its own it is a quote. It is still the cheapest fully verifiable named outlet we carry, and the only one where you can confirm the placement yourself with a browser and no help from us.
Who should buy it
Buy it if you want a real, fast, durable, checkable URL on a recognised finance domain for the least money in the catalogue. If someone asks you to prove a placement exists, this is the one you can prove.
Buy it if you are testing a vendor. Barchart is the ideal control purchase: order one, open the URL yourself, read the rel attribute, check it in ten minutes, and see whether what you were told matches what published. Nothing about this outlet is obscured.
Do not buy it for SEO. Nofollow across three wires and every link we read.
Do not buy it alongside Street Insider expecting two audiences. One submission, the same text, two URLs, the same day.
Do not buy it expecting readership. The feed on the day we checked ran to garage-door repair and local service SEO. Barchart is a data terminal with a wire feed attached; the value is the domain and the URL, not the traffic, and a press release cannot manufacture an audience that was not already there.
Where these figures came from
- Barchart robots.txt, fetched 29 August 2026 — a "User-agent: *" group disallowing only /password/, /proxies/, /search?* and three sort-order query parameters, with no AI-crawler blocks and every press path open: https://www.barchart.com/robots.txt
- Two live Barchart press-release pages fetched over HTTP and parsed on 28 August 2026: one published 2026-08-28T20:20-05:00 (three client links) and one timestamped Fri Aug 28, 3:48PM CDT (five client links). Every client link on both carried rel="nofollow noopener".
- Page furniture quoted from those pages: the "GetNews" byline slot, the Press Release chip, the "Press Release Distributed by ABNewswire.com" line, and the Barchart disclosure sentence.
- A third Barchart page carrying a February 2026 Newsfile release, and a fourth carrying a June 2026 Newsfile release, both nofollow — giving three distinct wires with the same link answer.
- Google Search Central, "Qualify your outbound links to Google" — why a nofollow link passes no ranking credit: https://developers.google.com/search/docs/crawling-indexing/qualify-outbound-links
- Barchart Terms of Use, containing the Barchart Disclosure Policy the on-page line refers to — "Articles published on Barchart and its affiliate sites are for informational purposes only", and the requirement that authors disclose positions in securities referenced: https://www.barchart.com/terms
- Google Search Central, "How to specify a canonical URL with rel=\"canonical\" and other methods" — where no canonical is specified, Google identifies which version of a URL to show: https://developers.google.com/search/docs/crawling-indexing/consolidate-duplicate-urls
- Automatic-verification rate of 1.00 across repeated passes, and a clean 404 for a well-formed URL that does not exist — unlike Benzinga, Digital Journal and Street Insider, which answer 403 for both healthy and removed pages: research/verification-feasibility.md.
- The duplicate-placement finding: the release opened on Barchart on 28 August 2026 was the same release, from the same wire submission, opened on Street Insider the same day.
- Barchart carries priceCents: null in content/catalog.ts — quote-only, since nothing is sold individually. Wholesale $26.10: the supplier lists its barchart plan at $29 and we buy credits at $0.90 on its published reseller ladder. Documentation at https://prnow.io/api-docs. Barchart is named on the Headline package.
