EIN Presswire vs PRWeb: price, rules and which to choose
· 6 min read
EIN Presswire is the cheaper of the two — $149 for a single release, or $66.60 each in a fifteen-release bundle, against PRWeb's $120 to $480 — and it names AP News, the USA TODAY Network and Nexstar in every tier. PRWeb syndicates through PR Newswire but refuses whole categories in writing, including cryptocurrency and venture funding announcements, which EIN accepts subject to documentation. Category, not price, is what usually decides this.
These two are worth comparing in detail for a reason that has nothing to do with either being better: they are the only pair of self-serve wires in this market that publish both a complete rate card and a complete editorial policy. Everything below is primary — their own pages, quoted.
The published prices
| EIN Presswire | PRWeb | |
|---|---|---|
| Entry tier | $149 single release | $120 |
| Middle tiers | $499 for six ($83.17 each) | $245, $360 |
| Top tier | $999 for fifteen ($66.60 each) | $480 |
| Membership or platform fee | None published | None published |
| Named network | AP News, USA TODAY Network, Nexstar in every tier | "Syndication to 1,200+ sites via PR Newswire" |
Two things fall out immediately.
EIN's price falls steeply with volume and PRWeb's does not. A fifteen-pack brings EIN to $66.60 a release. PRWeb's published ladder tops out at $480 for its most complete single release. Its own FAQ puts EIN's range at "$50 to $149 per release" and invites contact for "larger bulk packages or white labeling" — the $50 floor sits below any published tier, which confirms unpublished bulk pricing exists without revealing it.
They are on different rails. PRWeb is Cision's self-serve brand and says so: its distribution is syndication via PR Newswire. EIN runs its own network and names AP News, the USA TODAY Network and Nexstar at every price point. That is a genuine structural difference, not a marketing one, and it decides the next question.
The Yahoo Finance question, answered by the vendor
The single most useful sentence either company publishes is in EIN Presswire's FAQ: to get news into Yahoo Finance you need PR Newswire, GlobeNewswire or Business Wire.
That is EIN disclaiming a placement its competitors sell. It also means EIN's $66.60 release is not a cheaper version of a Yahoo-inclusive package — it is a different product with a different footprint, and its own vendor says so. If a Yahoo Finance placement is your requirement, EIN is not the route and PRWeb's PR Newswire rails are closer to it. We priced the whole published market if you want the rest of the ladder.
The content rules, which are where the real difference is
Both publish full editorial guidelines. They disagree substantially.
| Category | EIN Presswire | PRWeb |
|---|---|---|
| Cryptocurrency and NFTs | Allowed, subject to a transparency gate: full contact details and a postal address published on the website or social pages. Cloud mining banned | Banned outright — "will not distribute content related to cryptocurrency -- digital assets, bitcoin, mining, etc." |
| Venture funding announcements | No published rule | Refused — "content related to venture capital announcements -- e.g., 'series A funding,' etc." |
| Online gambling | Banned | Banned |
| Adult content | Banned | Banned |
| Supplements | All supplements banned "irrespective of legality"; pharmacies conditional on prescription status and a US or UK site | Prescription pharmaceuticals conditional; unsafe weight-loss, misleading supplements and sexual-enhancement products refused |
| Forex | Banned — platforms, bots and funded-account offers | No published rule |
| Firearms | Banned, including airsoft, paintball and parts | No published rule |
| Payday loans, get-rich-quick, stock tips | No published rule | Refused |
Read that table before you read the price table. For a crypto or Web3 company, PRWeb is not an option at any price and EIN is, subject to documentation. For a startup announcing a Series A, PRWeb refuses the release and refers it to PR Newswire membership — which on Cision's 2024 card is $305 a year plus $1,020 per 400 words. For a supplement brand, neither is available.
That referral sentence is worth noticing on its own terms: PRWeb states that restricted categories "should be referred to PR Newswire membership for consideration", which is one company saying in writing that its cheap door is shut and its expensive door is open. We took that relationship apart in PRWeb versus PR Newswire.
What neither of them tells you
Both publish outlet claims that a buyer cannot audit. "1,200+ sites" and "3,900+ publications" are counts of syndication endpoints, not of pages a human will read, and the growth of such counts across tiers in this market is a known artefact of counting near-identical affiliate republications. What a 500-outlet claim is actually counting applies to both numbers equally.
Neither guarantees publication anywhere, and neither should be read as promising it. Neither publishes link attributes, and in practice almost every syndicated press link is nofollow or rel="sponsored", passing no search credit — the reasons are structural rather than a defect, and you can check any placement yourself in about ten minutes.
Neither, as standard, tells you what actually published. Both report distribution. A send receipt is not a coverage report, and that gap is the same at $66.60 and at $480.
How to choose, in order
- Check your category against both policies first. Price is irrelevant if the release is refused, and at least one vendor elsewhere in this market states in writing that refunds are not issued when a compliance review fails.
- Decide whether you need the Cision rails. If Yahoo Finance or the PR Newswire footprint is the requirement, EIN's own FAQ rules it out.
- Then look at volume. If you send one release a year, PRWeb's $480 and EIN's $149 are the comparable numbers. If you send fifteen, EIN's $66.60 is the cheapest credible per-release price with AP News attached that we found published anywhere.
Where we sit
We are a reseller. We buy distribution from wire partners and mark it up, which is the ordinary structure of this market and the reason a $599 package can exist at all. We are not the cheapest option on this page and we do not pretend to be: at fifteen releases, EIN's own published card beats any package we sell on price per release, and we have just told you the number.
What we add is the verification step — every published URL opened and reported as measured or as supplier-reported, which a sample report shows row by row. We do not promise rankings, permanent pages, or that any named outlet will publish.
What we could not establish
EIN's bulk and white-label rates are gated behind a sales conversation; the published $50 floor confirms they exist without revealing them. PRWeb's syndication list is described as "1,200+ sites" and never itemised. And neither company publishes acceptance rates, rejection rates, or what proportion of a distribution actually results in a live page — figures that would make this comparison genuinely decidable and that no vendor in this market publishes.
